Event Overview

This event revolves around reaching common ground and unity via the Enterprise Architecture Doctrine. The Enterprise Architecture Doctrine will greatly impact the future course of the Enterprise Architecture profession.

The members of the enterprise architecture community who endorse the EA Doctrine will commit to embrace, advocate, and support and enact, within their individual spheres of influence, the set of core values and principles that differentiate EA from other professions and establish a basis for EA to mature as a profession. For purposes outlined in the EA Doctrine, the term “social responsibility” is defined as a commitment to leveraging the power of individuals and organizations that endorse a set of principles for the profession and practice which make a positive impact while creating healthier organizations.

EA Doctrine Signer Facts:

-       Organization affiliation is optional. Signers may represent themselves or themselves and their organizational affiliation.

-    There is no legal or otherwise repercussion if an individual or organization endorses the Doctrine and does not abide by them. Signers are encouraged to uphold the values and principles within the Doctrine.

-    No single entity sponsors or owns the Doctrine – it is owned by the profession.

-    The Doctrine is currently being developed; any qualified person can join the development workstream to guide its construction.

-    The Doctrine will be ready for pre-review one month in advance of the actual signing event on June 20th.

-    The concept is to change the way in which people think about EA, have healthy discussion on where EA is going and how to proceed and enjoy discussion with likeminded individuals.

The EA Doctrine states the fundamental principles and values for the practice of the Enterprise Architecture profession. The aim is to differentiate EA from other professions. The Doctrine’s principles and values are defensible and hold true across a wide spectrum of cultures, organizations and practitioners. The expected outcome after ratifying the Doctrine is 1) clearly differentiates between EA and other professions, 2) engenders consistency and relevance in EA practice, and 3) drives change in the ways people think about EA.

Note: The draft Doctrine will be circulated for review and feedback by May 20th, 2009
